Embracing the Beauty of Mature Skin: Understanding Thinning & Sagging

As the years pass, our skin undergoes a natural ageing process that can bring about various changes, such as thinning, sagging, and the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles. Understanding this journey is essential for developing an effective skincare routine that nurtures and supports the unique needs of mature skin. Here at esmi Skin Minerals, we are passionate about empowering individuals to embrace their skin's natural beauty and age gracefully. In this blog post, we'll delve into the science behind ageing skin and introduce you to our recommended products for mature skincare. Ageing Skin: The science behind the changes Typically, our skin cells regenerate every 28 days, ensuring a fresh and youthful complexion. However, as we age, this cell turnover process starts to slow down. Consequently, the skin's ability to produce collagen and repair itself diminishes, leading to a breakdown in collagen and elastin fibres. The result? The emergence of fine lines and wrinkles that may affect our confidence and self-esteem. Moreover, as time progresses, the volume of muscles under the skin decreases. This reduction in muscle volume can lead to sagging, especially around the jawline and cheeks. Additionally, the skin becomes more vulnerable to damage after trauma, making capillary damage and other issues more visible. Hydration & Oil Production: Meeting the New Challenges Another challenge that accompanies ageing skin is a decrease in hydration levels and oil production. This can result in increased dryness and dehydration, which may leave the skin feeling tight and dull.  esmi's approach to mature skincare At esmi skin Minerals, we believe that mature skin deserves the utmost care and attention. Our carefully curated selection of products is designed to address the specific needs of ageing skin, promoting a more youthful and radiant appearance. Our top 4 esmi Skin Recommendations  The Uncomplicated Cleanser + Anti-Ageing: Start your skincare routine with our Uncomplicated Cleanser + Anti-Ageing formula. Not only does it gently cleanse the skin, but it also contains powerful anti-ageing properties to help combat the signs of ageing and encourage a more youthful complexion. Ageless Hyaluronic Serum: Hyaluronic acid is a potent ingredient for mature skin, as it helps retain moisture, providing a plumping effect to minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Our Ageless Hyaluronic formula works wonders in keeping your skin hydrated and radiant. Retinol: Retinol is a tried-and-tested ingredient in the battle against ageing. Our Retinol Range offers various concentrations of retinol to suit different skin types and sensitivities. It helps to stimulate collagen production, diminish fine lines, and improve skin texture over time. Afterglow Rejuvenating Bakuchiol: If you prefer a more natural alternative to retinol, our Bakuchiol products are an excellent option. Bakuchiol, derived from the Babchi plant, offers similar benefits to retinol without the potential for irritation. It promotes smoother, firmer skin and helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. While a consistent skincare routine can make a significant difference, we also want to emphasise that some ageing concerns may require more intensive treatments available in salons or clinics. Our products complement these treatments and can further enhance the results. Embrace your beautiful, mature skin ❤️ Ageing is a natural part of life, and each line and wrinkle tells a story of a life well-lived. At esmi skin Minerals, we celebrate the beauty that comes with age and offer products that nourish and cherish your skin. Embrace your journey and let our products be your allies in achieving radiant, youthful-looking skin that reflects the wisdom and grace that only time can bestow. Why SPF 50+ Lip Balm is a Must-Have Skin Care Product

In the dazzling world of sun care, there's one star that often gets overlooked—our lips! We tend to remember SPF on our faces and bodies, but our lips care is more often than not forgotten when we're soaking up the sunshine. Get ready for a journey into the realm of lip care, where we'll uncover the secrets of why your pout deserves the VIP treatment. From the ins and outs of lip sun protection to the nitty-gritty of maintaining a supple smile, we've got it covered.  Why is SPF lip balm important? Indulging your lips in a bit of SPF love isn't just a skincare fad; it's an essential step in keeping your pout perfect. Unlike your other skin areas, lips lack the protective armour of melanin, leaving them sensitive and prone to sunburn. The reality includes dry, cracked and sore lips – not exactly glam! Excluding SPF in your lip routine increases your risk of lip-related skin cancers. We're all about keeping it light and fun, but when it comes to your lips, a touch of SPF isn't just a beauty trend; it's a necessity. Do I need an SPF 50+ rating for my lip balm? Opting for a lip balm with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 50 or higher is crucial for effective sun defence. The Australian sun, known for its intense and potentially harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation, demands a higher SPF to provide adequate protection. SPF 50+ is particularly crucial on days when the UV index is very high, as it helps to prevent sunburn, premature aging, and the risk of developing skin cancers. The higher SPF not only shields against more UVB rays but also provides better defence against UVA rays, which are known for causing long-term skin damage. To illustrate the comparison between SPF 50+ and lower SPF options, let's examine the pros and cons in a table: SPF 50+  SPF 30+ UVB protection High Moderate UVA protection High Moderate Sunburn protection Very effective Effective Premature ageing protection Very effective Effective Lip cancer prevention Enhanced protection Standard protection UV index consideration Suitable for very high UV index Suitable for moderate UV index Cons Potentially thicker texture Slightly lighter texture May cost more Generally more affordable   Yes, SPF 50+ may have a slightly thicker texture and could be relatively more expensive than lower SPF options. However, the enhanced protection it provides makes it a worthwhile investment in maintaining the health and appearance of your lips. It's worth it! What are the other benefits of an SPF lip balm? Imagine your lips wrapped in a cozy combination of Shea Butter, Sweet Almond Oil and Apricot Oil, creating a moisture-locking fortress. Shea Butter infuses your lips with ultimate hydration, preventing the dreaded chap-page (yes, we created a new word). Sweet Almond Oil brings its lightweight charm to keep your pout soft and supple. Finally, Apricot Oil is vitamin-packed and nourishing. These ingredients work together, creating a shield against the weather and urban pollution. Think of them as your lip's bodyguards, fending off harm and keeping them extra supple. As an added bonus, they're like an anti-aging serum for your lips, smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles. The best lip balm with SPF 50+ Revitalise and protect your lips with our Sun Skills Lip Balms, premium lip care solutions designed to keep your lips soft, moisturised and shielded from the harmful effects of the sun. Bakuchiol: A Retinol Alternative

For decades, retinol has reigned supreme as the go-to anti-aging ingredient, and rightfully so. Its remarkable ability to smooth wrinkles and boost collagen production has made it a skincare staple. However, not everyone can benefit from retinol in the long run, as its potency can be too much for sensitive skin, cause unwanted side effects and is not recommended for anyone pregnant or breastfeeding. Enter esmi's Afterglow Rejuvenating Bakuchiol — a game-changing alternative to retinol for those seeking youthful skin, minus the irritation. In this blog post, we'll explore why and how bakuchiol, a natural and gentle ingredient, is taking over the world of anti-aging skincare. What does bakuchiol do for the skin? Bakuchiol, a botanical extract derived from the seeds of the Psoralea corylifolia plant, has swiftly risen as a natural alternative to retinol. Originating in traditional Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine, bakuchiol offers remarkable benefits in serum form. This gentle yet potent ingredient aids in stimulating collagen production, reducing the appearance of fine lines and improving skin texture. Bakuchiol's anti-inflammatory properties also make it ideal for sensitive skin, without the typical irritation associated with retinol. In essence, bakuchiol is a plant-based marvel, offering all the advantages of retinol with added soothing properties, making it a game-changer for those seeking effective, gentle skincare solutions. Bakuchiol vs Retinol: Why is bakuchiol a retinol alternative? Bakuchiol, often referred to as "nature's retinol," offers comparable benefits to its chemical counterpart. This botanical extract functions by targeting the same key mechanisms as retinol, such as collagen production and skin renewal. It helps increase cell turnover, smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles, and improving skin texture. The beauty of bakuchiol lies in its gentleness. Unlike retinol, which can sometimes cause redness, peeling, and sensitivity, bakuchiol is kind to even the most delicate skin types, making it an ideal choice for those who cannot tolerate retinol's potential side effects. What's more, bakuchiol also boasts anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, helping to soothe and protect the skin, reducing the risk of irritation. This makes it a fantastic option for long-term use, without the concerns associated with prolonged retinol use. While retinol remains a fantastic choice for many, bakuchiol's unique blend of effectiveness and gentleness makes it an excellent alternative for those seeking retinol-like benefits without the downsides. esmi's commitment to offering both options underscores the importance of catering to individual skin needs. How to apply bakuchiol After cleansing and applying your favourite water based serums follow with 2-3 drops of bakuchiol. For extra nourishment, follow with your favourite moisturiser or oil. Can be used morning and night. Be sure to follow your morning application with SPF protection. Is bakuchiol pregnancy safe? Bakuchiol is considered pregnancy-safe because it lacks the potential risks associated with retinol, making it a suitable alternative for expectant mothers. This natural ingredient does not carry the same concerns of birth defects or adverse effects during pregnancy, offering a gentle and effective option for skincare during this special time. esmi recommends the Afterglow Rejuvenating Serum esmi's Afterglow Rejuvenation Bakuchiol is your ticket to radiant, youthful skin without compromise. This serum harnesses the power of bakuchiol, offering all the benefits of retinol without the drawbacks. In addition to its remarkable anti-aging properties, Afterglow Rejuvenation Bakuchiol provides intense hydration, leaving your skin plump and dewy. But don't just take our word for it. Here's what some of our satisfied customers have to say: "After using Esmi's Bakuchiol, my skin feels smoother and more youthful. No more irritation!" - Sarah L. Unlock the wonders of bakuchiol with esmi's Afterglow Rejuvenation Bakuchiol – your path to ageless, radiant skin.

Ingredients to Avoid in Sunscreen

When it comes to sun protection, sunscreen is an essential component of your skincare routine. But the journey to finding the perfect sunscreen isn't just about the SPF number on the bottle. The list of ingredients in your sunscreen matters just as much, if not more, than the sun protection factor it offers.  In this guide, we will help you navigate the world of sunscreen ingredients, shedding light on what to avoid and what to actively seek in your quest for the ideal sun protection.  🙅🏼‍♀️ Top 3 ingredients to avoid in sunscreen Using sunscreen daily is crucial for protecting your skin from the sun's harmful rays. Camellia Provides potent antioxidant properties, helping to shield the skin from UV-induced free radical damage while supporting overall skin health. 6. Rosehip Offers natural moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe and hydrate the skin while protecting it from the sun's harmful effects. 7. Green Tea Extract Can help calm redness, soothe acne-prone skin and target signs of ageing. 8. Milia: Let's Talk About Those Pesky Bumps

At esmi Skin Minerals, we understand that achieving flawless and healthy skin is a top priority for many individuals. However, there are certain skin concerns that can be particularly tricky to handle. One such concern is milia, those small bumps that can appear on your skin and be stubborn to remove.  What are milia?  Milia are tiny, white or yellowish bumps that often appear on the face, particularly around the eyes, nose, and cheeks. These bumps form when dead skin cells become trapped beneath the skin's surface, usually due to a clog in the skin caused by skincare products or makeup. Unlike regular pimples or blackheads, milia do not have an opening onto the skin's surface (pore or hair follicle), making them difficult to extract through squeezing. Causes of milia Milia can occur due to a variety of factors, including: Dead skin cell buildup: When dead skin cells are not properly exfoliated, they can accumulate and lead to the formation of milia. Skincare or makeup buildup: Certain skincare products or heavy makeup can clog pores, trapping dead skin cells beneath the surface and causing milia to develop. Sun damage: Prolonged sun exposure can lead to skin damage, making it easier for milia to form. Injury or trauma: Skin injuries or trauma, such as burns or rashes, can trigger the development of milia. Certain skin conditions: Some skin conditions, like rosacea or bullous lichen planus, may contribute to the appearance of milia. Why you should avoid squeezing milia As tempting as it may be to try and squeeze or pop milia like you would with a pimple, we highly recommend against it. Since milia do not have an opening on the skin's surface, attempting to extract them yourself can cause redness, inflammation, and even scarring. It's best to leave milia removal to the professionals. Professional treatment for milia removal If you're dealing with milia, consider visiting your local beauty salon or clinic to seek the assistance of a professional therapist. They can perform a quick and painless extraction to remove the milia safely. This method ensures minimal risk of damage to your skin and reduces the likelihood of scarring or other complications. esmi skincare products to help with milia While milia can be tricky to address with skincare alone, incorporating certain products into your routine can aid in preventing their formation and promoting overall skin health. Here are some esmi Skin Minerals products that may help: Detoxifying Exfoliating Charcoal Serum: This serum contains activated charcoal, which can help draw out impurities and excess oil from the skin, potentially reducing the risk of clogged pores and milia. Gentle-Foliants: These products are designed to exfoliate the skin gently, promoting healthy skin cell turnover and reducing the buildup of dead skin cells. Gentle Refine Cleansing Toner: A gentle toner can help balance the skin's pH and remove any residue that might contribute to clogged pores. Hyaluronic Hydrating Serum *preventative: Keeping the skin hydrated can help maintain its health and reduce the likelihood of dead skin cell buildup. Detox Hydra-Fluid Moisturiser *preventive: This product aids in maintaining skin hydration and supports the skin's natural detoxification process. Milia can be a frustrating skin concern, but with the right approach, they can be managed effectively. Remember, avoid trying to remove milia yourself, and instead, opt for professional treatment to ensure safe and efficient extraction. Additionally, incorporate appropriate esmi Skin Minerals products into your skincare routine to prevent new milia from forming and to maintain healthy, radiant skin. With patience and a balanced skincare regimen, you'll be well on your way to smoother, clearer skin.

What's the Difference Between Mineral & 'Regular' Makeup?

Welcome to the world of makeup, where beauty is not just about looking good but also about feeling good. With a plethora of makeup options available in the market, it's essential to understand the differences between various products, especially when it comes to caring for your skin. In this blog post, we'll explore the key distinctions between mineral makeup and 'regular' makeup, shedding light on why mineral makeup might be the better choice for your skin's health. What sets mineral makeup apart? Mineral makeup has been gaining popularity for its unique approach to enhancing beauty without compromising skin health. The fundamental difference lies in its composition. Mineral makeup is crafted by finely milling natural minerals such as zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, and Kaolin clay, which are then blended with pigments to create a smooth coverage for your skin. Unlike conventional makeup products, mineral makeup penetrates the skin instead of just sitting on its surface. It is free from oils, waxes, preservatives, and synthetic fragrances commonly found in 'regular' makeup brands. This purity makes mineral makeup a more skin-loving alternative, especially for those with sensitive or temperamental skin. Love your skin with esmi's mineral makeup range esmi Skin Minerals understands that makeup should not only enhance your appearance but also nourish and protect your skin. That's why their Mineral Makeup range includes additional ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, Shea Butter, and Aloe Vera, which promote skin health and hydration. This unique combination ensures that when you wear esmi's Mineral Makeup, you're not just getting coverage; you're giving your skin the care it deserves. Benefits of mineral makeup Ideal for sensitive skin: Mineral formulations are often devoid of ingredients that can trigger reactions in sensitive skin types. The absence of potential irritants makes mineral makeup a gentle and soothing option for those with delicate skin. Non-comedogenic: Mineral makeup's lack of filler ingredients means it is less likely to clog pores. This can significantly reduce the occurrence of breakouts and congestion, making it an excellent choice for blemish-prone skin. Lightweight & breathable: Unlike heavy 'regular' makeup, mineral makeup feels light on the skin and allows it to breathe. Say goodbye to that cake-y feeling and welcome a natural, weightless look. Recommended esmi Mineral Makeup products esmi Mineral Liquid Foundation: Experience the magic of a foundation that effortlessly blends into your skin, leaving you with a flawless and radiant complexion. Taming the Duo: Dry Skin with Breakouts

Let's talk about a topic that often seems like a skincare puzzle – dry skin with breakouts. Yes, you heard it right! Acne can make an appearance even if you've been dealing with the Sahara Desert on your face. But fret not, we're here to decode the mysterious combination and recommend some effective esmi products that will have your skin feeling nourished and less inflamed.   Why the odd couple? Picture this: your pores are like little tunnels. Whether you have oily or dry skin, they can still get clogged by oil and dead skin cells. Now, if your skin is feeling a bit like a desert landscape, it might overcompensate by producing more oil to protect itself, which only adds to the clogging conundrum and can result in more acne.  The game plan: Gentle and effective No need to feel overwhelmed – we've got your back with a simple and effective routine that addresses both dryness and acne. Understanding the Different Types of Skin Congestion

Our skin is a reflection of our overall health and wellbeing. While everyone desires a clear and radiant complexion, various types of skin congestion can hinder that goal. Whether it's inflamed breakouts, underlying congestion, blackheads, or dry skin build-up, addressing these concerns requires a tailored skincare routine. Types of skin congestion  At esmi Skin Minerals, we believe in treating each individual's specific skin issues with targeted solutions for optimal results. Let's dive into the different types of skin congestion and how to address them effectively. Inflamed breakouts or cystic breakouts Inflamed breakouts, also known as cystic breakouts, occur when a combination of bacteria, dead skin cells, and sebum becomes trapped beneath the skin's surface. This leads to large, inflamed, and painful lumps that can be challenging to deal with. It is crucial not to attempt squeezing these breakouts, as it can aggravate the condition, increase the risk of infection, and potentially leave scars. 🧴esmi Skin Minerals recommends To effectively address inflamed breakouts, we recommend the following esmi Skin Minerals products: The Uncomplicated Cleanser plus Anti-Redness: A gentle cleanser that helps soothe and calm the skin, reducing redness and irritation. Hyaluronic Hydrating Serum: Provides essential hydration, plumps the skin, and promotes healing. Anti-Redness Green Smoothie: An antibacterial, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory serum designed to target redness and inflammation. Anti-inflammation Mint Gel Booster Mask: Cools and calms the skin while shutting down inflammation with natural antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. Retinol: Speeds up skin cell turnover, beneficial for active breakouts, and aids in improving skin texture, including scarring, pores, and fine lines. Probiotic Mylck: A product that can help further target individual skin concerns. Underlying congestion Underlying congestion occurs when dead skin cells, sweat, impurities, and sebum become trapped within the pores, resulting in bumpy texture on the skin's surface. Adequate cleansing and regular exfoliation are vital to address this issue effectively. Additionally, dehydration can contribute to congestion as natural oils and dead skin cells can get trapped in the pores, promoting bacterial growth. 🧴esmi Skin Minerals recommends To tackle underlying congestion, consider incorporating the following esmi Skin Minerals products: The Uncomplicated Cleanser plus Charcoal: A cleansing product that utilises the power of charcoal to draw out impurities and excess oil. Detoxifying Exfoliating Charcoal Serum: Contains a 10% fruit acid combination to dissolve dead skin cells and speed up cell renewal, unclogging pores and brightening the skin. Gentle Refine Cleansing Toner: Features buffing agents to gently remove dead skin cells, along with soothing and hydrating ingredients for a soft and glowing complexion. Hyaluronic Hydrating Serum: Boosts internal hydration, plumps fine lines, and balances oil flow with the help of Niacinamide. Blackheads or open comedones Blackheads form when dead skin cells, sebum, and debris clog the skin's pores. Exposure to air causes them to oxidize and turn black. Individuals with oilier skin types are more prone to visible blackheads. Squeezing blackheads can push them deeper into the skin, leading to scarring or enlarged pores. 🧴esmi Skin Minerals recommends To manage blackheads effectively, consider using these esmi Skin Minerals products: The Uncomplicated Cleanser plus Charcoal: A powerful cleanser to remove impurities and excess oil, targeting blackhead formation. Detoxifying Exfoliating Charcoal Serum with Brush: Exfoliates the skin with the added benefit of a brush to assist in gentle removal of dead skin cells and debris. Gentle Refine Cleansing Toner: Helps maintain a clear complexion and promotes balanced oil production. Fresh Sea & Salty Sand Gentle-Foliant: A product designed to gently exfoliate the skin, leaving it refreshed and renewed. Skin congestion comes in various forms, each requiring a unique approach for effective treatment. At esmi Skin Minerals, we believe in the power of personalized skincare solutions to address specific concerns and help you achieve a clear and radiant complexion. Remember, consistency and patience are key when it comes to skincare. Embrace a customized routine and watch your skin flourish with a healthy, beautiful glow. Here's to a journey towards healthier and happier skin!

Understanding Different Types of Scarring and Targeted Solutions

Scarring occurs as a result of inflammation or injury to the skin, such as acne breakouts or burns. This triggers the body's natural wound healing process, leading to the production of melanin (pigmentation cells) and collagen (a vital protein for skin structure). Discover the recommended products that can help address scarring, from post-inflammatory erythema to pigmentation and pitted scars. While skincare plays a significant role, more intensive treatments like skin needling or LED therapy may be necessary for optimal results. Understanding Different Types of Scarring Scarring can manifest in various forms, each requiring a specific approach for effective treatment. Let's explore three common types of scarring: Post-Inflammatory Erythema (PIE): PIE refers to the residual discolouration on the skin following inflamed breakouts. These marks can appear as red, purple, or pink spots. It's essential to avoid picking breakouts, as it can worsen scarring and further exacerbate breakouts. Pigmentation Scarring: Inflammatory or traumatic events can lead to pigmentation scarring, triggering the release of inflammatory cells that produce excess pigment as a protective mechanism. This results in darker patches or spots on the skin. Pitted Scars: Pitted scars are indentations or depressions in the skin, often caused by acne or other injuries. These scars can be challenging to treat as they are located beneath the skin's surface. Additionally, debris can settle into these scars, posing a risk of further congestion. Targeted Solutions for Different Types of Scarring To effectively target different types of scarring, consider the following skincare solutions. Hyaluronic Hydrating Serum: This serum provides essential hydration while containing Niacinamide to repair the skin's barrier and soothe inflammation. It helps keep the skin moisturised and can assist in lightening scarring. Pomegranate Brightening Serum: Ideal for skins without active breakouts, this serum contains Vitamin C and Kakadu plum for brightening. It also includes bearberry and liquorice extract to reduce melanin production. Additionally, it acts as a tyrosinase inhibitor, interrupting the conversion process that transports pigment to the top layer of the skin. Encapsulated Retinol Serums: Retinol is a powerful ingredient that can increase cell turnover, improving overall skin texture, targeting fine lines, pores, scarring, and acne. It stimulates collagen production and can also assist with pigmentation concerns. Ensure to consult with a healthcare professional before incorporating retinol into your routine. Detoxifying Exfoliating Charcoal Serum: This serum utilises a 10% combination of fruit acids to gently refine the skin and purify underlying congestion. It can be beneficial for concerns related to scarring and pigmentation. The Role of Professional Treatments While skincare products play a crucial role in addressing scarring, it's important to note that they may not entirely remove deep or severe scarring. Consider visiting your local salon or clinic for more intensive treatments, including skin needling, LED therapy, or other targeted approaches recommended by skincare professionals. These treatments can provide additional benefits and enhance the results achieved through skincare alone. Different types of scarring require targeted solutions for effective treatment. By incorporating specific skincare products such as the Hyaluronic Hydrating Serum, Pomegranate Brightening Serum, Encapsulated Retinol Serums, and Detoxifying Exfoliating Charcoal Serum, you can strengthen and lighten scarring while promoting the growth of fresh, healthy skin cells. However, for more intensive forms of scarring, consult with skincare professionals to explore advanced treatments like skin needling or LED therapy. Embrace the journey to smoother, more even-toned skin as you combine the power of skincare and professional interventions.

The Difference Between Eczema, Psoriasis & Dermatitis

Are you dealing with dry, itchy, and inflamed skin? We're sorry 😪 We know the impact it can have on everyday life and confidence. You might be wondering whether you are experiencing eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis. Though they share some similar symptoms, these skin conditions are fundamentally different. Understanding their distinctions can help you find the right skincare routine for your unique needs. In this blog, we'll breakdown the differences between eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis and provide you with essential tips and product recommendations to keep your skin nourished and healthy. We're here for you! Eczema, Psoriasis, and Dermatitis in a Nutshell Psoriasis is caused by an overactive immune system that speeds up skin cell production. It presents as thick, scaly patches on the skin's surface. These scales may cause discomfort and, in some cases, a burning sensation.  Eczema is characterised by red, itchy rashes and dryness. The skin becomes inflamed, and continuous scratching can exacerbate the condition, leading to further irritation. It can be caused by genetic and environmental factors.  Dermatitis refers to general skin inflammation and can manifest in various types, such as Atopic Dermatitis, Contact Dermatitis & Seborrheic Dermatitis. It often leads to redness, itchy rashes or small blisters and scabs. It is most often caused by contact with an irritant, triggering an allergic reaction. Tips for Managing Dry Skin Conditions Though they share some similarities, understanding the unique features of each condition is crucial for effective management and treatment. If you suspect any of these skin issues, chat to your GP for a proper diagnosis or our Skin Service team for personalised care. Here are our top tips in caring for dry, inflamed and irritated skin. They might sound simple, but they are effective and very important in the skin healing process.  Keep your skin nourished: Properly moisturising your skin is essential for all these conditions. Opt for products rich in natural ingredients like aloe vera, shea butter and oatmeal. Regularly applying a sensitive moisturiser can help soothe and hydrate your skin, reducing irritation and promoting healing. Avoid harsh products and hot showers/baths: Harsh chemical-laden products can worsen skin conditions, so opt for gentle, hypoallergenic cleansers like the Probiotic Skin Mylck Cleanser. Additionally, hot showers and baths can strip your skin of natural oils, leading to further dryness. Stick to lukewarm water and limit your bath time to avoid exacerbating the symptoms. Sun protection: Too much sun exposure can trigger flare-ups in individuals with these skin conditions. Always wear sunscreen with broad-spectrum protection to help shield your skin from UV damage. Our Top esmi Recommendations for Dry Skin Here at esmi Skin Minerals, we offer a range of specialised skin care products designed to provide relief and support for those dealing with eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. Our gentle and nourishing formulations are crafted to address the specific needs of inflamed and sensitive skin. Tackling Hormonal Pigmentation: Your Guide to Brighter Skin

Hormonal pigmentation, specifically melasma, can be a challenging skin concern to address. Factors such as hormonal changes, sun damage, genetics, environment, and medication can contribute to this condition. Melasma occurs when the melanocytes within the skin produce excessive amounts of melanin, resulting in pigmentation. Discover our recommended products to combat hormonal pigmentation and achieve a more radiant complexion. Understanding Hormonal Pigmentation and Its Causes Hormonal pigmentation, particularly melasma, is a complex skin concern influenced by various factors such as hormones, sun damage, genetics, environment, and medication. Melasma occurs when the melanocytes, responsible for producing melanin (pigment molecule), go into overdrive, resulting in excessive pigmentation. To effectively address this condition, it's important to consider the following causes and contributing factors. Strategies for Brightening the Skin and Stimulating Collagen Production To combat hormonal pigmentation and achieve a brighter complexion, a multi-faceted approach is often necessary. Consider the following strategies: Skincare Products Sun Skills SPF: Applying a high-quality SPF daily is crucial to protect the skin from further damage and prevent the pigmentation from worsening. Incorporating this serum into your skincare routine can contribute to a more even skin tone. Retinol: Retinol is known for its effectiveness in promoting new skin cell formation, brightening the skin, and evening out skin tone. Pairing Skincare Ingredients with Retinol

Retinol has been a hot commodity on the skincare scene for years now, but have you ever wondered if you’re mixing it with the wrong products? We all love to mix a cocktail (margarita please!), but it’s very important to consider the ingredients we blend together on our face, especially when it comes to retinol. We’re here to tell you what you can and can’t use with retinol to be gentle with your skin and get that glow! What is retinol? Let’s take it back to basics. As a derivative of vitamin A, retinol is a powerful ingredient that promotes skin cell turnover and collagen production. It helps to lessen the appearance of acne, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles and an uneven skin texture. Basically, it’s the holy grail, ask any skincare fanatic. While it supports cell turnover, retinol also gently exfoliates, helping decongest pores and control oil production. It should always be applied at night, and in the beginning, less is more. Pure retinol can be intense if applied too generously to begin with, leaving the skin feeling dry, irritated, sensitive and even lead to peeling and redness. So, start by applying it once a week and gradually build up to 3 times weekly. If you haven’t already guessed, we’re huge fans of retinol, heck, we even made our own! If you’re new here, meet our Encapsulated Retinol - similar to most retinols, but smarter. If the word encapsulated has you confused, don’t fret. All this means is that the retinol is surrounded in a protective layer that keeps all the components active until they arrive at the deeper levels of your skin to limit irritation. Always start with Level 1 and work your way up when your skin is happy. Ingredients you can use with retinol Niacinamide Skin care junkies rejoice when we tell them, yes, you can use niacinamide with retinol. Fortunately, they are safe to pair together and actually have heaps of benefits when combined. Using niacinamide with retinol helps to form a protective barrier on your skin and lessens dryness and irritation, meaning you’ll enjoy more benefits of retinol with fewer drawbacks. Hyaluronic Acid Hyaluronic acid and retinol are a dynamic duo. Hyaluronic acid soothes the skin, provides a hydration hit and prevents any possible irritation from the retinol without getting in the way of its hard work. If your skin is a little on the drier side, this is the combo for you. If you’re looking to ward off any dryness and get a real bang for your buck, reach for our best seller, our Hyaluronic Hydrating Serum contains both hyaluronic acid (who knew!?!) AND niacinamide, so it’s perfect to use alongside retinol. SPF Okay, so not strictly an ingredient itself but hear us out. 365 days a year, come rain, hail or shine, SPF is a non-negotiable. Using your beloved retinol can cause your skin to be more sensitive when exposed to sun, increasing your risk of developing sunburn, dark spots and hyperpigmentation. Make sure to only apply your Retinol Serum of a night time though! Keep your gorgeous face safe and lather on our Skin Shield Natural Sunscreen at the end of your morning skincare routine, every day! What not to use with retinol To get the most out of your retinol and give your skin the best chance at glowing, there’s a few ingredients we need to tread carefully with. Vitamin C We LOVE vitamin C. Whether it’s orange juice in a mimosa or in a juicy face serum. However, there’s often confusion surrounding whether you can use vitamin C with retinol. The answer is yes, but, and the “but” is important, make sure you separate the two products. They are both active ingredients so using them at the same time can sometimes lead to irritation. Apply retinol as a part of your nighttime skincare routine and vitamin C as a part of your morning ritual. Our Pomegranate Brightening Serum in particular is sure to brighten your mornings. Lactic Acid Ok so, acids and retinol are part-time frenemies. What we mean is, if you have sensitive or dry skin, lactic acid and retinol is not a winning combo for you. Using lactic acid too frequently with retinol can damage your skin’s moisture barrier, leading to dryness, irritation and redness. So if you want to use lactic acid with retinol, just make sure you use it sparingly and on alternative days to your retinol. Our Detoxifying Exfoliating Charcoal Serum is a great place to start, as it contains 24K gold and jojoba oil which have healing and anti-inflammatory properties. Salicylic Acid Adult acne is never fun and if you’ve been through the trenches with it, you know you want results, and you want them yesterday. Salicylic acid and retinol are both fantastic for clearing up acne, but if you’re asking, “can I use salicylic acid with retinol?”, there’s some important guidelines. The combination of ingredients can be harsh and drying on the skin. To keep your skin happy and healthy, be sure to only use retinol every third night, and apply your salicylic acid in the morning. If your skin becomes irritated, slow down on one of these products until it subsides.   Embarking on a new skincare routine with powerful ingredients doesn’t have to be daunting, especially now that you know what you can and what not to use with retinol.
